Watauga

 

A river in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina that passes into eastern Tennessee. The river's name probably honors the Watauga Indian tribe, Cherokee Indians that lived in northeastern Tennessee.

Although she was projected as a screw frigate and was first carried on Navy lists in 1864, Watauga was never laid down, and the contract for her construction was cancelled in 1866
