Snowdrop-a launch built in 1897 at Morris Heights, N.Y., for the United States Lighthouse Service-was transferred to the Navy in April 1917 with the entire Lighthouse Service. She operated in the 7th Naval District throughout World War I and was returned to her prewar status on 1 July 1919 when the Lighthouse Service reverted to control by the Department of Commerce.
