Snapper (Submarine Torpedo Boat No. 16), commissioned in February 1910, was renamed C-5 in November 1911 when all the Navy's submarines received letter-and-number names. This early gasoline-engined submarine took part in early efforts to develop tactical concepts for the new undersea arm of the Navy.
