Any of a family of voracious elongate teleost fishes resembling, but not related to, the fresh-water gars.
The name Needlefish was assigned to the submarine SS–379 on 23 August 1942, but construction was cancelled 29 July 1944, before she was laid down.
The name Needlefish was assigned to the submarine SS–493 on 26 January 1945, however, her construction was cancelled 12 August 1945 before she was laid down.
