A Roman god represented with winged feet who served as messenger for the other gods; a silver‑white metal which is liquid at ordinary temperatures; the planet nearest to the Sun.

The second Mercury, a schooner, was built in 1781 at Plymouth, Mass., by John Peck. She served the Continental Navy as a packet, but facts of her disposal are unknown.
