A city in the southwestern part of Alabama, located at the mouth of the Mobile River and at the head of Mobile Bay.

The fourth Mobile (AKA‑115) was assigned that name 6 November 1967 and laid down at the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock, Co., Newport News, Va., 15 January 1968. Still under construction, she is scheduled to be completed in early spring 1969.
