Midge was fitted out under Act of Congress 20 December 1822 as part of the “Mosquito Fleet", to cruise in the West Indies to suppress piracy. She was never commissioned and had no regular officers or crew. Departing Norfolk in February 1823, she operated from the central base at Key West until 1825.
