LST-852 was redesignated ARL-23 and named Satyr (q.v.) on 14 August 1944.

 

 

The landing craft repair ship Satyr (ARL-23), originally ordered as LST-852. Her bow doors are welded shut, and she has been equipped with booms and workshops for emergency repairs to amphibious craft in forward areas. Smaller craft can be lifted on board for repair or servicing.
