Sir Robert Holmes, a British naval commander distinguished for service in the Dutch Wars.

Holmes (DE-572) was launched by Bethlehem-Hing-ham Shipyard, Hingham, Mass., 18 December 1943. Designated for transfer to Great Britain under Lend-Lease, she was delivered and commissioned by the Royal Navy 31 January 1944. After serving throughout the rest of the war as an escort vessel, she was returned to the United States, stricken, from the Navy List 7 February 1946, and sold to Walter H. Wilms & Co., Detroit, Mich., in October 1947. Holmes was subsequently scrapped.
