General Hoyt S. Vandenberg

 

Hoyt Sanford Vandenberg -- born in Wisconsin on 24 January 1899 -- graduated from the U.S. Military Academy on 12 June 1923. He played a major role in developing air tactics and strategy. He was Chief of Staff of the Air Force from 1948 to 1953 when he was retired for physical disability. General Vandenberg died in Washington, D.C., on 2 April 1954.

 

General Harry Taylor (AP-145) (q.v.) was reacquired by the Navy from the U.S. Air Force as General Hoyt S. Vandenberg (T-AGM-10) on 13 July 1964.
