Leesburg, alternatively spelled Leesburgh, was employed in the Savannah River as a transport from 1862 through the end of the war. While under temporary command of Lt. Comdr. J. S. Kennard, CSN, she figured in laying and removing torpedoes from the river during the last months of the war.
