Hibben was operated by Confederate army forces in transporting men and materials in the vicinity of Charleston harbor during 1863-64. During the Federal attack on that city in August 1863 Hibben sustained damage while lying at the wharf of Fort Sumter, however, a year later army officials reported her in good condition and she apparently continued to operate.
