Amazon, a high pressure, iron-hulled steamer was built at Wilmington, Del., in 1856, for the cotton trade. Taken into Confederate service, she was used in transporting material and laying torpedoes in the Savannah River. On 2 March 1865 she surrendered to USS Pontiac and was sent into Savannah as a prize.
