Some confusion surrounds the question as to whether or not Bobby--a wooden-hulled motorboat built in 1915 at Davis, N.C.--ever performed naval service. On one hand, the 1 October 1918 volume of Ship's Data, U.S. Naval Vessels carries the little craft as "commissioned" on 17 June 1918 and assigned to the 5th Naval District for section patrol duties. However, the boat was never assigned an SP number and is carried in the 1 October 1919 edition of Ship's Data under "ships stricken from Navy lists" as "not taken over."
