Hours
Due to a lapse in federal funding, employees have been furloughed, and as a result we are closed until further notice. During the government shutdown, information on this site will not be updated.

Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
(Barry closed Mondays)
On weekdays, buses must enter via the 11th & O Street SE gate
Pedestrians may enter via the 11th & O Street SE gate or the Riverwalk Trail (adjacent to the USS Barry)
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
On weekends and holidays, buses must enter via the 6th & M Street SE gate
Pedestrians may enter via 6th & M Street SE gate or the Riverwalk Trail (adjacent to the USS Barry)
Base Access Information
Please be advised that Base Security protocol can change without notice. All information provided below is based on standard Security procedures. Naval Support Activity Washington reserves the right to make changes at any time.
The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Headquarters is located at the Washington Navy Yard. Please follow the guidance for entrance gates and directions below.

Individuals above the age of 18 are required to have a valid government-issued ID card, such as a driver's license, State ID, passport, or Common Access Card (CAC). Guests accompanied by children under the age of 18 will be responsible for those children. Large handbags and backpacks may be searched by Security.
All Visitors who do not have Military ID or government issued CAC cards are required to use the 11th & O street entrance or the Riverwalk Trail on weekdays and the 6th & M street entrance or Riverwalk Trail on weekends.
Personal vehicles are permitted on weekends ONLY. Vehicle registration and proof of insurance or rental agreement are required. During the week, parking is available for a fee in the lot adjacent to the Navy Yard at the intersection of 6th & M St SE.

6th St SE & M St SE - Military and DoD employees only 24/7; non-military or DoD employees on weekends or holidays.
Visitors may drive in through the 6th & M St. gate on weekends. This gate is also the entrance for buses arriving on weekends and holidays.

9th St SE & M St SE - Military and DoD employees only, Monday-Friday

11th St SE & O St SE (1022 O St SE) - All non military, non DoD visitor entry on weekdays. This gate is the entrance for buses arrive on weekdays.

Riverwalk Trail - Open to pedestrian traffic Tuesday through Sunday.

Personal Vehicles are permitted on the Washington Navy Yard on WEEKENDS ONLY.
Ample parking is available in front of the National Museum of the U.S. Navy. All white spaces are available for visitors.
Vehicle registration and proof of insurance or rental agreement are required. There is also a public parking lot at 7th and M St SE. There is a fee for parking in this lot.

The General Public can bring cars onto the Navy Yard on weekends only and should use the 6th & M Street SE gate.

Pedestrians must enter the Washington Navy Yard at the 11th & O St. SE gate on weekdays and the 6th & M St SE gate on weekends and holidays.

Visitors arriving by foot also have the option of using the Riverwalk Trail to enter the museum Museum.

Visitors with DoD or military identification can enter the Navy Yard through the 6th & M St. SE gate on weekday, weekends or holidays.

The National Museum of the U.S. Navy is accessible by both the Navy Yard (green) and Eastern Market (blue and orange) metro stations.
- Eastern Market Metro Station (Orange/Blue Line)
Exit the metro station and walk south on 8th St SE for 0.5 miles.
Weekdays: Turn left onto M St SE for 1 block and turn right onto 11th St. The O St gate is the last gate before the water.
Weekends: Turn right onto M St SE and continue for two more blocks and enter the 6th and M St SE gate.

Exit the metro station via New Jersey Ave.
Weekdays: Walk east on M St until you come to 11th St and turn right. The O St gate is the last gate before the water.
Weekends: Walk east on M St until you arrive at the 6th St gate.
Public Bus >View
The new DC Circulator Union Station to Navy Yard Metro route will operate every ten minutes, Monday through Friday - 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Additional service will be available during Nationals home game days - including late evening and weekends.
