The Online Exhibit is the Material Section's reference guide to Naval and maritime material culture. It contains a small sampling of the artifacts and information held by the United States Navy.
Some of the subjects are narrative, reproducing information from original sources. A few entries with pictures provide a thumbnail image, a caption and the appropriate credit line. Many images are taken from the Photographic Section's Online Library, showing the items in contemporary settings; those without links are photos taken for the exhibit. To the best of our knowledge, all Online Exhibit pictures are in the public domain and can therefore be freely downloaded and used for any purpose without requesting permission of the Navy.
The items pictured on these pages are United States Navy property. Exhibition is for reference purposes only and does not suggest or indicate that an object is available for loan in other venues.
