The Author
Dr. Dean L. Mawdsley attended Stanford University and the
University of California, San Francisco, where he received his
MD degree in 1950. His two-year naval service in the Navy V-12
Program at Carroll College, Helena, Montana, in 1944 and 1945,
was followed by a total of two years' service as a physician in
the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 at Ladd Air Force Base, Fairbanks,
Alaska. After completing postgraduate training in surgery at the
University of California, San Francisco, he entered private practice.
He is the author of The America of Eric Sloane: A Collector's
Bibliography, published by the Connecticut Historical Commission
in 1990. Dr. Mawdsley, now retired, resides in San Mateo County,
California, with his wife, Mary Lou.
