Scope and Content Note
These papers document Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner's activities as Commander, Amphibious Force, South Pacific, then as Commander, Fifth Amphibious Force, and finally as Commander Amphibious Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet in the 1942-1945 period. Scattered materials covering the Admiral's post-war career are included, as well as his service as Director, War Plans Division of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations from 1939 to 1942. Official and personal correspondence (including materials relating to the preparation of Admiral Dyer's study of Turner), press clippings, action reports, official naval plans, and some publications make up the bulk of the material.
