Scope and Content Note
Lieutenant Langan Swent served in
naval amphibious forces in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. He
was initially officer-in-charge of an LCT (Landing Craft Tank) and later commanded
of a flotilla of LCTs. Swent participated in the initial landings in Sicily,
Salerno, Anzio, and Southern France and in beachhead supply operations subsequent
to each of the initial landings. The collection includes official correspondence
and a copy of a "Personal Diary of Langan W. Swent, January 1, 1943 through
25 September 1944." The diary includes a biography covering the period 1916
to 1992.
