Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of correspondence, telegrams, memos, and legal documents relating to Admiral Joseph Strauss's appointment by Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. as receiver for the Naval Budget Office. The legal and financial documents which make up the collection document the Teapot Dome Scandal of 1921-1928 when Secretary of Interior Albert Fall secretly leased the Navy's oil reserves to Harry F. Sinclair and Edward L. Doheny.
