Scope and Content Note

The Papers and Office Files of Admiral Harold R. Stark are divided into two sections. One consists of Stark's official files as Commander, US Naval Forces Europe from 1942-1945.

The larger segment (38 feet) covers all aspects of Stark's career. It includes correspondence, extensive files on the Pearl Harbor attack investigations, diaries, appointment books, speeches, publications, and subject files. A large percentage relates to the Admiral's duty as Chief of Naval Operations from 1939 to 1942 and as Commander, US Naval Forces Europe.
