Scope and Content Note
This collection contains material
gathered by Edward J. Marolda and Robert J. Schneller, Jr. for their book Shield
and Storm: The United States Navy and the Persian Gulf War. It includes
primary and secondary source material, correspondence, working papers, and drafts.
Among the items found in the collection are message traffic; biographical information;
oral histories; papers of individuals and units; press releases, briefings,
and lectures; reports, working papers, and studies; command and unit histories
and chronologies; Navy and Air Force white papers; Argentine, Australian, United
Kingdom, Dutch, and Japanese Navy historical materials; U.S. Coast Guard materials;
USS Lasalle deck log; I Marine Expeditionary Force command center briefings;
journal, magazine, and newspaper articles; printed material (handbooks, pamphlets);
maps and charts; and videotapes and audiotapes. The collection also includes:
documentation (U.S. Naval Forces Central Command message traffic, after action
reports, operational plans) photocopied largely from Center for Naval Analyses;
reports and papers of Marvin Pokrant, Henry S. Griffis et al., M. Anderson,
Vice Admiral John B. LaPlante, and others; Gulf War Air Power Survey; and Center
for Air Force History studies.
