Most of these papers date from 1949-1951 when Admiral Forrest P. Sherman was Chief of Naval Operations. The papers consist of subject files and of official, semi-official, and personal correspondence. Some documentation on the Admiral's death in Naples, Italy on 22 July 1951 while on an official trip is included. Additional material received as a later accession includes correspondence, citations, and awards.
