Biographical Note
Captain Glenn F. Howell had an eventful career prior to his retirement in 1932, serving on such stations as Brazil, the Asiatic Fleet, and the Yangtze Patrol. During World War II, he was recalled to active duty to serve as U.S. Naval Attache in Canada. In addition to his naval years, the diaries include coverage of the Captain's activities as a rancher and local politician in the state of Idaho.
