Scope and Content Note
This material, which includes photocopies of documents held in other depositories as well as some original records, contains files collected by the Naval Investigative Service, US Coast Guard, the Hydrographic Office, the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, and the Secretary of the Navy, as well as scattered records contributed by private individuals. All aspects of the Earhart case are covered in the collection, including her final flight, the initial search, and official investigations since 1937 that sought to evaluate the various theories of her disappearance. Microfilm copies of these documents are also available.
