Scope and Content Note
The office files in this collection relate to Admiral Arleigh Burke's career and are especially valuable for the period 1942-1945 when he was a distinguished combat commander and staff officer in the Pacific war and for 1951-1952 when he was an armistice negotiator in Korea. A small collection of letters from the Admiral to his wife, Roberta Gorsuch Burke, is also available. These letters date from their first meeting while he was attending the Naval Academy through his World War II service. Several volumes of Admiral Burke's oral history reminiscences are filed in the Center's Oral History Collections.
