Biographical Note

Lieutenant Commander Artz was a member of the Navy Nurse Corps from 1930 to 1950. She was originally assigned to the Naval Hospital in Brooklyn, New York then worked at Great Lakes, Pearl Harbor, San Diego, and Philadelphia. After attending classes at George Washington University in Washington DC, she reported to Newport, Rhode Island. Other assignments included Farrago, Idaho; Gulfport, Mississippi; Quoddy Village, Maine; Chelsea, Massachusetts; Green Cove Springs, Florida; and Oceanside, California. Commander Artz retired in 1950.


Scope and Content Note

These papers consist mainly of official records such as orders, travel claim vouchers, leave papers, and some correspondence. The collection also contains photographs and two I.D. cards from her time in service. The papers are arranged according to general topic in chronological order.
